Atropine injection is used to treat poisoning caused by organophosphorus nerve agents, including organophosphorus or carbamate insecticides. Atropine is a cholinergic muscarinic antagonist. It works by blocking the chemical acetylcholine, including excess acetylcholine caused by organophosphorus poisoning.

Directions:

atropine antidote given by slow intravenous injection of 1 to 4 mg (0.5 to 1 mg in pediatric populations), rapidly abolishes delirium and coma caused by large doses of atropine.

Dosage · Child: 0.02 to 0.05 mg/kg by IM or slow IV injection ·Adults:1 - 2 mg IV initially. If no response, the dose is doubled every 5 - 10 minutes until tracheobronchial secretions are dry and patient can be oxygenated
